Random Objects on Sequence Diagrams
« on: December 16, 2011, 02:48:21 am »
Hi,

We're currently having some issues with sequence diagrams in build 9.2.920 of Enterprise Architect.

We're using a distributed model of version control (along with SVN) for working on the model with each team member having their own local SVN working copy of the model upon which they work and periodically run 'get-all-latest' to pull down changes that other members of the team have checked into the version control system.  We have all packages within the model individually controlled.

The issue we're having is that some sequence diagrams, which at one point looked fine, seem to be suddenly getting other random objects appearing on the diagrams.  Even checking out the package containing the diagram, fixing it (by deleting the random objects from the diagram), checking it in and then checking it out again causes the objects to (annoyingly) reappear.  Has anyone got any ideas why this would be happening or what we need to do to stop it happening?

Thanks in advance.

Andy

A quick updated... some investigation has shown that removing the items from the associated diagrams was NOT modifying the underlying XML files and removing the GUID references.... as a result, next time the XML file was loaded the items reappeared... we're still investigating but it's looking like a bug.

I am certainly not an expert, but have been working in an Package Controlled environment (SVN) for nearly a year.  I have observed this when dealing with cross package references. Upon checkin, you get a dialog box titled "Missing Cross-References". The dialog continues "Latest revision of this Controlled Package contains the following cross package references, which are missing from the XMI file you are currently exporting."  A list is then presented: "Select the items you wish to restore to XMI:". There is a check box and "Diagram Contents". Double click to see the details, but basically sometimes its not very insightful. If you memorize your GUIDs maybe...

In the end, I think the dialogue should say:
You have deleted reference items, are you sure you wish to save?

If you UNCHECK the box, your changes will save.  If you do not uncheck, your removed lines will come back.

Hope this solves your problem.
