MicroSoft Excel
« on: September 29, 2011, 06:07:23 am »
Does anyone know how to post a MicroSoft Excel document as a linked document that can be edited within EA?  I have created a "Plan" template and I want to attach the spreadsheet within this template.  However I need the ability to update the spreadsheet within the EA environment.

As your question stands, the most likely answer appears to be "Copy it to a USB flash drive and put it in a padded envelope", but I'm sure that's not what you're asking. Could you provide a bit more context please?

If you mean as a linked document then ...
Open Word.
Embed (OLE) your spreadsheet into Word document
Save as .RTF
Import .RTF into linked document,

Thanks, I was able to create the RTF document with the Word Spreadsheet embedded in the OLE.

However, I now have this issue so you have an object that you can double-click, but when it opens up, it also pastes the worksheet to the template (as a picture - not something you can edit)

Have you experienced this issue?

The problem I have had in that infrequently I cannot control the placement of the OLE object in the page, (eg it is represented off the physical page with only a sliver showing).
This happened both with the RTF editor, and with Word when I exported it to try to fix it.
I had to open and save with wordpad to fix.
Now you mention it there was a tiny mini icon sized image shown as well as the full OLE object, but I don't remember the mini icon printing.

The main issue i am having after I import the RTF document is that it oonce the object is opened, it gets "pasted" onto the template
and that's the part we'd like not to have happen.  We have the spreadsheet but we lose the template.  Please let me know if you have any ideas to get around this issue.
