Search forum

Every now and then I try my luck with the forum search. The latest encounter is the Search Order drop down. I set it to Oldest topic first. But the result was just in random order. At least I could not guess what definition of oldest is underlying in this sort. Also the contents of the between-fields seems to be ignored completely.

I think what you are seeing is that the migration from the old forum to the new all posts came through with exactly the same time.

Unfortunately no. The results were simply in random order. I just tried again and they appeared to be sorted a bit more. But 2009, 2009, 2010, 2004, 2009, ... does not look like a correct sorting order. But now it was like >95% ok while yesterday it was more like <5% ok. Also, the time restriction now seems to be respected. Suspicious ;-)

It won't have been fixed by anyone here over the weekend.

I know the posts appear to have dates on them, but I don't think that the dates displayed (when they are before the forum migration) have any impact on search functions at all. The result is that a sort on date won't work for posts that are old.

I just tested using a search for 'cloud' showing recent first, the results support my claim. All the posts for this year came up in order. After I go past all of those I get 2015, 2014, 2009, 2012, 2011. Those posts also show up if I search only within the last year.
