Title: We are dissapointed since Version 13
Post by: arphex on December 06, 2017, 07:45:03 pm
Hello,
now its about 1,5 years ago since you introduced with EA 13 the new Graphical Interface.

We use Ultimate Floating in a big company, and most of the work got more complicated, sincewe dont find some menu entries anymore, or it costs too much time for simplest modelling jobs, which is unacceptable.

I had also in 2016 a support ticket how i can change back the graphical overview to get rid of these messy ribbon view, but was not possible.

Now we move slightly away from Sparx into another toolchain after 8 years EA...

Could you tell the reasons for this?

Did you also move away from MS Office when they introduced the Ribbon?

I think the ribbon is a bogus excuse for something else.

PS. In version 13 there is a "search command" feature that you can use, try it.

Integration of the ribbons by Sparx is an expected move to be in line with other tools UI.

I understand the difficulties in introducing the ribbons in EA13, yet this is just the same situation as when we first got Office 2007.
I initially didn't like it, yet I'm now used to it...

To help clients in the same situation as yours, I produced and shared a mapping helper doc, available to download from http://www.umlchannel.com/en/enterprise-architect/item/232-mapping-between-enterprise-architect-12-1-menus-and-enterprise-architect-13-ribbons (http://www.umlchannel.com/en/enterprise-architect/item/232-mapping-between-enterprise-architect-12-1-menus-and-enterprise-architect-13-ribbons)
Compared with MS Office, such move can indeed introduce tensions from users who didn't in the 1st place do any modelling, and were happy with powerpoint and Visio.

The only criticism I have on the current EA ribbons is that you cannot hide single functions from menus as you're limited to groups of functions. This is something that should hopefully be addressed in the future.

I use Office very seldom [comments about quality/usability have been censored by myself]. But since introduction of the ribbon is use it even less. Probably less times than fingers are left on my left hand.

You have removable fingers?

I'm not sure if that would be a comfort.

45 degrees, to be exact. Definitely not comfortable but nature erased the pain somehow.
