General Board / "unrecognized database format"

Hi, am trying to reverse engineer an access database.  I set up an ODBC reference and I can get the list of tables in EA but when I try to import I get the message unrecognized database format "<name of file>"

General Board / SQL Server 2000 & Corporate Edition

Setting up SQL Server and EA was no problem.  My question is: Do I have to set up a separate database for each project.  It appears you do.  I kept loading in projects with the transfer option until I realized I was overwriting the previous project with each transfer.  At work I've been given access to one database for my development work.  Our DBA assigns and sets up the databases for us.

General Board / Problem with toolbars

Using the 3.5 version I notice every so often (more often than not) The tool bars above and below the working area each take up a separate line on the screen really limiting the working area.  Of course I can just drag them where I want but it doesn't seem to stick for the next time.  Is there an option that resets them to a default configuration or something that will make them stay the way I set them up?

 :-/ So, what is the difference between the 10/29 version of 3.50 and the 10/28 version.  Usually there's a list of changes.

General Board / Setting up 3.5 on network

  Just a warning to those upgrading from 3.1 to 3.5 with more than one developer sharing a project on a local net.

I installed 3.5 on my machine and converted the database as requested (Using Jet 4 with Access 2000).  Other developer upgrades his 3.1 to 3.5 (has not used Jet 4).  Tries to read the project and it tells him it can't be read as unrecognizable database format.  Tries to get into Options but can't because options are stored in the database he can't read.

Solution: Had developer connect to example project which was on his C drive, change options to Jet 4, exit from project and EA.  Open EA and point to network project and all is well again.  Good idea to copy base and examples to network too, I guess.

General Board / rtf templates - where are they?

We have two separate copies of EA for two developers.  We have the program installed on each of our machines.  We share a project file on the network.  I recently used the documentation/rtf dialog to create a new template called Requirements.  The second programmer didn't have a copy.  I tried to find where it was stored but no files were found.  How do we share template files we create?

General Board / XML Profiles

Find the XML profiles very useful.  Decided to create one with classes "entity", "control", "boundary" and an association called "link".  First I get a message that I have duplicate objects, keys or whatever, and then at line 0 column 0 I have no top level element.

I used one of the four on your site as a template and just modified it to fit.  Can not see where there is any error.  Every time I select the project I get the line 0 char 0 error again; even if I remove all XML profiles.

General Board / Importing HTML Code for reverse Engineering

OK, I had a nice long message composed, hit the esc key by mistake and now I'm doing it again

Went through the steps to reverse engineer java code and got the packages, diagrams and source code imported just fine.  I did the same only changed the type to HTML from JAVA in the dialog box and I saw all the file names quickly scroll by just like the java files, the Packages were created and diagram pages but the diagram pages were blank - they had no class diagrams.  Course with no components on the diagrams, I couldn't select View Source Code.

Did I miss a step or is there a problem with importing HTML (and JSP) code to create diagrams?

The help system says at the present time there is no report for the task list.  Are there plans in the near future to implement a report?

When you bring up the System Workspace it shows the task list.  Is it possible to modify the format to include the dates?  Also it automatically sorts in LIFO (most recent on top) order.  The order can be changed via right click on heading but it doesn't remain between sessions.  Is there a way to set it to ascending order as the default?

General Board / Object attributes in Java

In 3.0 I would create a class object in a logic diagram and if I created an attribute and defined it as a property it would display a "create" button and it would set up the setters and getters for me.  Now in 3.1 I have to finish the object after typing in the attributes, open it up again and then the create button will appear.  Something changed between 3.0 and 3.1.

Uml Process / What looks like an Industry trend?

Our organization has been moving to e-business with Java.  We are looking at UML using EA and have tentively adopted it as a standard.  Our development system is using Websphere Application Server and the IDE is Websphere Application Studio Developer.  Rational has come out with Rational XDE which can integrate with Websphere, Macromedia is coming out with an integrated ColdFusion server for Websphere, Dreamweaver will integrate someday with Websphere, and other companies are also proposing products that integrate with application servers.  Is EA looking at this trend?  Course now we are seeing talk of IBM buying Rational and a rumor that Microsoft is also bidding for Rational.  How do you see these trends affecting your product?  (Hope I picked the right forum for this).
