Suggestions and Requests / Suggestion: "Save As New" button
« on: January 29, 2004, 10:59:44 pm »
This often happens to me:
I want to enter a bunch of attributes or operations. Often they are similar, so it would be cool if I could:
- enter one attribute/operation
- change it a bit
- save it again as new, not overwriting the first one
- and so on...

Hm, I'm running the trial version of 658, which seems to be the latest one... Am I missing something?

Suggestions and Requests / be able to select multiple objects
« on: January 26, 2004, 03:56:53 am »
Would be cool if I could:

1) in project view, select multiple objects (the usual windows way, with CTRL or Shift) and do operations on them like move or delete.

2) in diagrams, select multipl objects holding down Shift. This is kind of the standard way I'd expect...

Suggestions and Requests / Update Realized Interface Methods?
« on: January 26, 2004, 10:44:08 pm »
Maybe this feature exists already and I'm just too dumb:

When I change an interface's method, I want the realizing classes automatically to change their realizations of the methods. Or, at least, this should be an option.

Seems I have to go through all class models to update the realized methods manually...  :-/

me too.

Suggestions and Requests / Suggestion: Tooltips
« on: January 28, 2004, 09:29:36 pm »
Hi,

wouldn't it be cool if you guys would show tooltips when one hovers over a diagram element, showing the element note?

One could extend this to include the methods and operations. Then, one could leaf through the method notes simply by move the mouse over the class :-)

General Board / change page size ??
« on: January 28, 2004, 07:24:30 am »
Okay, maybe this is a really dumb question, but well:

I try to figure out how to get big diagrams - basically, not limited to any physical printer setting at all. So I want to be able to draw with unlimited space. Is that possible?

Thanks!

General Board / How is Support?
« on: January 25, 2004, 02:00:28 am »
Hi all,

I'm currently evaluating EA and a number of other tools for myself. Tech-wise, I found EA to be superior in its class to all the competitors - slim and fast (no JAVA GUI :-), nice look&feel, good C++ code generation and so on. At work we use Together and RR, both which I find overpriced and terrible resource hogs.

Now, though EA meets a lot of my needs, I still find corners I don't like or I don't understand or I think are buggy.

So my question is to the registered users: How do you find EA support? Is it responsive? Is it helpful? From what I see in the forums, there linger sometimes threads around for weeks or months w/o anyone answering, but maybe the situation is different for registered users?

Thanks for answering,

General Board / missing save?
« on: January 21, 2004, 09:36:25 am »
Hi all,

another oddity I find in the Enterprise Architekt: The "SAVE" button often does not get enabled whan changing somehting. So I have to click around and try and make random changes before I get the possibility to save.

Example: in an interface, rename an existing operation. You can't save that. Only, when you change e.g. the scope of the operation (even if it is the same value), the SAVE button gets enabled.

General Board / realizing interfaces: methods get copied?
« on: January 21, 2004, 09:32:36 am »
Hi all,

I'm defining an interface i with function foo(). Now I define 20 classes which all implement interface i. Now I have to change the function foo() in interface i (I'm still ni the mids of development) and I expected all deriving classes to change their implementations of foo() too, but no.

It seems that when realizing an interface, the methods are simply copied to the class instead of somehow referring to the original foo() in interface i. So I have to change all 20 classes manually (and hope I don't miss one).

Any ideas?

Thanks! Thomas
