Suggestions and Requests / SQL 2005 Express as a supported database...
« on: April 14, 2006, 11:10:58 pm »
It would be nice to have this as a supported database of the professional version, since it is free for all to download and use for development.

Suggestions and Requests / NetBeans 5.0 MDG integration...

Maybe there isn't a buissness case, but it would be cool to have one similar to your demo'd MS VS 2005 integration...

Suggestions and Requests / Ruby code generation...
« on: November 08, 2005, 05:15:32 pm »
I know that someone uploaded one to the user's group site (I think).  It would be nice to just have Ruby generation and synchronization at install time.

This isn't ideal, but you can accomplish it this way:
1 ) go to your Use Case diagram.
2 ) create a note
3 ) add a note link to your Use case scenario
4 ) copy to clipboard
5 ) go to your sequence diagram
6 ) paste the note as new (very important)
7 ) now when you update your use case the note will update. (note you need to close the diagram and reopen it to see the text update in the note)
8 ) go back to your use case diagram
9 ) delete the note from the diagram

Hope this helps

Suggestions and Requests / Re: .NET Framework Types

Yes does someone have this base project available.  I would like to use it now that I am doing C#.  Also maybe Sparx could provide a .NET Framework base class project to start from as well.

General Board / Re: reverse engineering & server repository
« on: December 31, 2004, 01:53:20 pm »
We have had similar problems with MySQL.  We think we tracked it down to the import statements with our packages defined in them.

For example:

import com.test.utilites.dateTime.*;

We are close to a release so I haven't had time to try and replicate the problem to send in.  Though I did file a bug report.

If someone from EA reads this.  I don't know if the package being imported exists in the repository or not.  I would not think it would matter.

Not all java files being sychronized or reverse engineered show this behaviour.

Here is a link to ICONIX Robustness analysis.  There were a series of articles and you should be able to find them all.

We are currently just starting to implement ICONIX where I am working.  Hopefully we will have our whole team doing it for our next release.  I personally have had good success with the process and the designs that came out of it.

General Board / This is the better question to ask...
« on: April 05, 2004, 12:22:55 pm »
I actually ran into this.  We had to just say that in a self procedure call there is no way in a sequence diagram to show what has occurred.

The better question is this:  How do you represent this in any UML tool for a self call.

+---------+                  +----+----+
|   :A    |                     |     :B     |
+----+----+                 +----+----+
    |                                   |
   +++ --------+                 |
   |#|         | MySelfM...      |
   |#+-+ <-----+                |
   |#|#|                             |
   |#|#| -------------------->+
   |#|#|                             | otherClassMessage
   |#|-+- - - -
   |#|         | Result = MySelfMessage
   +++ <- - - -

This is what you can't do as far as I know.  It would have been very useful to be able to do this a couple of times.

General Board / Automation Interface connect to MySQL???
« on: September 17, 2003, 04:26:19 pm »
How do you open a MySQL repository using the automation interface???  It was not clear to me reading the samples for the automation interface.  They only connected to a local Access repository.

General Board / .Net Compact Framework import
« on: July 03, 2003, 09:19:21 pm »
I remember seeing a post about importing the .NET framework into EA.  I was wondering if there was a way to do the same thing with the .NET compact framework.  I would like to do some toying around with my new Pocket PC and the .NET compact Framework and just wanted to use EA to document the design for my little test project.

General Board / Added a new element report???
« on: June 12, 2003, 11:12:31 pm »
What exactly is the report element?

I don't see it in any of the pallettes to put in a diagram.  I want to use it to represent some customer documentation like paragraphs from a statement of work for certain tasks.  Would this be an appropriate use for this element.  I just don't want to use a custom element that was really intended for another use later.  I could not find anything in the documentation about the report element.

General Board / Re: MySQL EA synched across two networks?
« on: June 11, 2003, 08:44:38 pm »
I think I answered my own question.  Looking at the database tables and doing some thinking led me to the conlcusion that the XMI export would be the best way to do this.   ::) ::) ::)

Searching through the board led me to a concern over this.  There was a message half a year ago or so that basically said they were losing objects doing this type of synchronization.  My question is anyone else having this issue?  ???  ???  ???

General Board / MySQL EA synched across two networks?
« on: June 10, 2003, 10:27:19 am »
We are running the coporate edition with MySQL.

Due to customer requirements we need to share part of our model with them (Requirments through use cases[robustness analysis]).  Our software baseline is on a seperate isolated network.  We would like to do a one way synchronization of the model through the use cases on the isolated network.  On the isolated network we will be doing the rest of the design, sequence, class, state, and activity diagrams.  Also we will want to link the classes to the use cases with realizations.  This would occur any time changes in the mentioned sections occur (probably at most once a week).   We don't want to lose any of the connections when we synchronize the two databases.  What would be the best approach to this? (XMI export, SQL dumps, etc.) What might be some of the problems that may be encountered using the suggested approach?

General Board / synchronization and duplicate associations...
« on: September 24, 2002, 10:46:48 pm »
Just recently we were having problems where we created a class diagram.  Then generated code.  After some coding was done it was synchronized to the database.  When the synchronization was complete.  An extra duplicate association showed up everywhere.  We deleted the extra assocation and generated code followed by synchronizing.  They showed up again.  We then deleted the original associations and no more duplicates showed up.  Could someone explain why this happens??
