That would, I can assure you, appear on the "worst of" episode!!

Just a note, that in 7.5, the button is labeled “Reset” instead of “Refresh”.

It did exactly as you said. Just as a process question, when would I know that I should "reset" the menus? Is it a good idea anytime a new build or version is loaded?

Thanks for a GREAT product, I sing it's praises every day, and it is really helping me to show the benefits of requirements engineering (like that subject should have to be a hard sell!) :)

The ability to align the displayed text associated with an element's Name attribute would be helpful. For instance many times when I am dropping a Boundary onto a diagram I would like to have it displayed to the left.

A "text alignment "feature is described for the text associated with an embedded element...

Side Note: Icon's for alignment of elements in the Element/Alignment seems to indicate text, rather than objects...

Thanks again,
David

Exactly.... If you are creating diagrams that big... then you really need to consider the use of composite features to hide detail or to break the activity into smaller logical parts.

I think you can say that "feature" will not be available until the UML specification would change, and as Oliver states that really would lead to multiple problems... Smaller, Simpler, Clearer... Go team!

HOW good is Midnight or what!  :)

All kidding aside, I have said it repeatedly, the EA forum community is a great group and one of the best assets of a great product.

Everyone have a great weekend!

BTW, this weekend I am continuing my reading two good books:
  • Advanced Use Case Modeling, software Systems, by Frank Armour and Granville Miller, 2001 (ISBN: 0-201-61592-4, Addison-Wesley, Object Technology Series) - A very good book for both those new to use case modeling and experienced veterans. It has very practical advice on a complex subject that is often botched in the real world, and
  • Essential Software Testing, A Use-Case Approach, by Greg Fournier, 2009 (ISBN: 978-1-4200-8981-3, CRC Press) - Have just started marking it up after a quick skim, so this weekend hunching down and reading through it... It seems to map pretty well with chapter 14 (Create Test Cases and Documentation) of the 1st book I mentioned.

Well start identifying the "things", then the types of activities (maybe these could be related to a use case, where you could describe the "steps".)

Then walk through a very simple scenario with the scope of your use cases, and see what kind of info you would need to satisfy some of those "requirements" that are talked about within that run-on paragraph.

Again, I would:
1. Identify candidates for "things" and give them a brief definition (a sentence or two at the most)
2. Review the list of "things" and see if some of them are really the same thing, just called something else (e.g., Car and Auto) – kind of like normalization in the database world...
3. Identify "actors" and "Stakeholders" and think about how the actors will be interacting with the system, and what are the stakeholder’s needs that need to be fulfilled/protected (e.g., Every customer needs to be uniquely identified, so I know who's account we are dealing with. The accountants would certainly want to be able to "follow" the transaction paths, so what info would you need to meet their auditing needs?)

Once you are that far, you should start to see your classes fall out of your analysis with attributes and the context of their use should help you identify the needed operations....

Hope that helps!

You are learning about a very important part of software engineering (requirements and analysis.) If you learn to think in an object oriented analysis mode, then your chances of success greatly increase.

Good luck and let us know how you are progressing...

And yes it would be better to post in the "general" forum.
BTW are you using EA?

You can achieve that manually by just dragging the appropriate diagram and adding it as a short-cut (bottom option, don't have EA up right now...)

I usually blank out the note text so it's only the icon, then resize it to ehat ever size I need (e.g., tiny so they HAVE to click the diagram icon, or same size as element, then overlay it so it's on top...)

Doing this programmatically through an add-on would be fun... <filing that away for another time...>

That happened to me today! My properties window this morning when I booted up (after working at home with a different monitor configuration) and was in EA, my property window was no where to be found!

[size=8]Hiding on my laptop monitor behind IE... IMO a bad place to stand, what with all the cripes about IE/size] :)

Thanks for that heads up!

I believe your setup options are saved in the registry, so maybe that would be the place to "check" under the hood, but really this question should be answered ASAP by an EA Administer on this forum

Hello?!! Need some help here!

If you have a license, then send a priority support e-mail to Sparx and they will respond quickly, if not then we need some help form our other foum members!

<yelling> Midnight or Palo HELP

I believe there was a thread about this in another forum (but I could get no hits?!), but if I remember right, the problem is that the browser IS being displayed, but it has been squished off to one side.

I just tried this and it in fact does create the problem you describe...

Move your cursor to the far left or right of the window and you should see it change to allow you to change the width of a widow by dragging... that should allow you to see the project browser, or any other "window" that disappears!

Not sure about the beanfield? But I WILL ask Jack on his opinion, after all he is a well known GIANT in his field...

Anyway, I will TRY to start some threads along the lines of "shared/example" shapescripts, document templates, stereotypes, and such..." and maybe we can see if in fact we can breath some life back into sharing.

I would immediately think of Midnight and Paulo as two of the most thoughtful, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable posters that I have ever encountered on these forums. So maybe we can take inspiration from their and others dedication and see how things go.

As always thanks to Sparx for their great support, helpful posts, and great product!

Eric,

I'm sorry my posting was not very clear. I was referring to the "admins" as being cleared through checking postings...

I agree that anyone who wants to join should find it easy. With that said, part of the problem on the current group is that it really does not serve this need, and no one really monitors off subject postings, etc.

I have volunteered repeatedly to help, but have never been answered.

So really, if we assume Sparx is too busy/not able and the Linked-In group functions don't cut it...

WHAT can anyone suggest? I often have questions or would like to be able to work from an example that has been posted, but that seems to be rare. For instance learning shapescripts was a royal pain for me, not because of the command syntax, but a lack of understanding of the impact of the command order... Has been my experience that the documentation has been incorrect, and I have resorted to trial and error to get a clean validated script...

I am game to help and maybe even host, but would like to get some suggestions from the community on what might be the best resource to make use of?

David
