I've seen a few posts on this topic but no answers, so I thought I'd take my chances.

When I use {Diagram.DiagramImg} to put an image into generated documentation, the image is smaller than I'd like (it's legible, but I'd like the diagram to be bigger. Is there a way to set the size?

Thanks
Bruce

General Board / Re: Figure numbers in captions in generate documents?

Thanks all,

This worked: Figure {Diagram.Figure}: {Diagram.Name}

Now I'll start a thread about setting image size.

General Board / Figure numbers in captions in generate documents?

I've searched for a way to do this but haven't found anything.

How do I add Figure numbers and captions in generated documentation?

Thanks

General Board / Document templates for methods with parameter notes
« on: July 18, 2017, 05:46:51 am »
Any insights on how to create a template that generates documentation for a method that looks like the strcat sample below? Specifically, I want to know how to put the parameter types and names into the function signature and put a list of the parameters and their associated notes below the signature.

Thanks in advance for assistance
Bruce

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

char * strcat ( char * destination, const char * source );

destination
Pointer to the destination array, which should contain a C string, and be large enough to contain the concatenated resulting string.
source
C string to be appended. This should not overlap destination.

I like the speed with which I can create relationships using the relationship matrix, until I try creating trace relationships. Creating those relationships with the matrix requires hand-editing every one of the dependency links afterward to add the "trace" stereotype.

Please add a "stereotype" entry box to the Relationship Matrix screen.

Thanks,

Bruce

Suggestions and Requests / Lining up labels, not their elements
« on: August 21, 2007, 09:20:34 am »
Please provide a way to select several elements (say three interfaces or three ports) and automatically line up the labels for the elements. I'm looking for a quick way to tidy up drawings. So far, I have to select and manually resize or move each label, which is tedious on a complex drawing.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Add an "assumptions" element

Answering the question about how we learn if an assumption isn't correct gets us pretty far away from UML. I'll bring this discussion back to the UML with the example that led to my original request.

We're defining requirements for a simulated radio transmitter/receiver system. We are assuming that weather and terrain are not part of the simulation; to do otherwise would introduce a litany of requirements we aren't prepared to handle.

I suppose we could treat the assumption as a requirement: "The simulation will not model weather or terrain." That requirement doesn't really lend itself to tracing or verification, and there is probably a law against negative requirements.

We could call it an issue: "Does the system model weather or terrain?", answer "no", and resolve it. In that case, the issue goes into the list of resolved issues, which means it is out of sight.

I want a list of assumptions, such as this one, that define scope. We can discuss them with the client, refer to them in the future, and revise project scope if we need to change the assumptions.

Putting assumptions in the UML model seems like a convenient place to store them, although I could maintain a separate document.

PS. I'm now handling assumptions by creating an "Assumptions" view and putting stereotyped issues into that view. It would be cleaner to have an "assumptions" element.

In my business, assumptions help define the scope of a project and are often stated explicitly in the contract between my company (a contract R&D organization) and the client. If an assumption turns out to be incorrect, then the scope of the project is affected and the contract may be re-written or canceled. Those are the assumptions I want to identify.

These assumptions are not issues, in that the assumptions are dormant. They don't get revisited or resolved or even monitored.

I am using a stereotyped issues class. It's a bit awkward, but works. Assumptions are such an important part of a project (at least around here) that I think they warrant their own element.

Thanks for the quick response.

It would be nice to have an assumptions element, used to track project assumptions.

General Board / Re: Show multiplicity of components on diagram?

I've tried that but I don't see the value show up. Is there a place to turn on the visibility for the multiplicity?

Thanks,

Bruce

Thanks - I'll look into that.

I could, but that isn't a very pleasing solution, and I already have a reasonably complex diagram. With object-icons in EA, you can show the multiplicity and have it show up in the upper right corner of the icon. It would be nice to have something concise like that.

Is there a simple way to show multiplicity of components on component diagrams? I'd like to make it clear when a component symbol represents multiple instances of the component.

Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I haven't found a way to do it.

Thanks,

General Board / Sharing model with version 6.5 and 7
« on: August 14, 2007, 08:43:13 am »
If I start using version 7 of EA on a shared-model that the rest of the team is using 6.5 with, are there going to be compatibility issues (I won't enable auditing, which I know converts the database)?

Thanks,

Bruce
