Sparx Systems Launches Enterprise Architect 6.5
Creswick, Australia Sparx Systems a leading vendor of UML modeling software, today announced the latest release of ‘Enterprise Architect’, the company’s flagship product that integrates the design, construction and planning of complex software systems, business processes and system architectures. This latest release delivers support for key industry standards UML 2.1 and its related interchange format XMI 2.1. These additions, together with a focus on improved productivity tools, strengthen Enterprise Architect’s pre-eminent position as a team-based UML modeling solution.
Sparx Systems CEO and founder Geoffrey Sparks said the new release caps another strong year of growth and expansion for the company. "Looking forward, we are excited to be involved in the continuing growth of the software development industry,” said Sparks . “And in delivering tools for new technologies like UML 2.1, SysML, BPMN and DDS to the global IT community".
Key
advances in Version 6.5:
The ability to extend the Enterprise Architect
modeling environment has been upgraded,
including significantly enhanced support
for UML Profiles (a way of customizing
the UML for domain specific modeling) and
an extended plug-in API for controlling
the modeling interface. Enterprise Architect
can now be tailored for highly specific
tasks – such as using the SysML and
BPMN modeling languages. Sparx Systems
will shortly be releasing a plug-in for
the SysML language based on this new extensibility.
Users of Java and .Net can now create run-time instances of their modeled objects using the built in Object Workbench, a dynamic debugging environment for creating, simulating and inspecting object instances. Coupled with the ability to generate sequence diagrams from executing code, this feature lets developers and architects visualize, test and refine their models and code in new ways.
Enterprise Architect’s popular HTML reporting facility has also been given a make over, making it easier than ever to create and share web based reports. The revamped reports now include a navigation frame that closely mirrors the model hierarchy, allowing a distributed audience to explore sophisticated models online. The reporting facility also considerably extends the level of detail available, creating the ideal solution to sharing the model with clients and stakeholders.
The user interface has also undergone a number of changes to make modeling and design both more productive and more intuitive. In particular, modeling with sequence diagrams has been improved with automated focus of control, nested execution and UML 2.1 features. New “Legend” elements, a Pan & Zoom window for bird’s eye viewing of large diagrams, streamlined menus and a number of small but helpful features complete the user experience.
