PCS Suggestions and Requests / WebEA link to diagram images.
« on: June 18, 2021, 11:26:21 am »
With PCS we now can use links to entities such as diagrams, projects, entities, etc, viz
Code: [Select]
https://example.com/WebEA?m=99&o=DB9A81E9-00C0-411d-8B89-B9A57F1FA4D7 to open WebEA in a browser.

Now, is to possible, or would it be a good idea, to have a URL that allows the diagram images to be accessed, and therefore embedded in a website?
e.g.
Code: [Select]
https://example.com/WebEA?m=99&o=DB9A81E9-00C0-411d-8B89-B9A57F1FA4D7&img=png

PCS General Board / Using PCS tokens
« on: June 04, 2021, 01:02:27 pm »

I asked support ...

it appears to me that one use can consume more than one token when using WebEA.
Id suggest that this is a bug when SSO is being used.
For example a user opens up several views of a model in separate browser tabs.

Support provided a good explanation of what is going on:

"Id suggest that this is a bug"
Unfortunately it is not, this behavior is a result of how browser to webserver interaction work.  When a browser opens a URL the hosting webserver allocates a unique session ID to that particular browser/URL combination, this session ID is the only form of identification the PCS has about a given 'user'.
However you must remember that requests are stateless, ie from one request to the next the server doesn't know if the end user is 'logged in'. Some web application get around this limitation by including data in the URL which could uniquely identify a user to the webserver and then internally the webserver could store information about the current user, but we find such URLs messy, confusing and too easy to break if a user manually changes something.  Therefore the PCS keeps a track of users by session ID, but the main limitation with this approach is that users need to log out when they are finished, otherwise if they simply close the browser, then the token used is not released.
In response to this situation the PCS will automatically release a token that hasn't been used after 30 minutes of inactivity.

"For example a user opens up several views of a model in separate browser tabs."
It is our understanding if multiple tabs, on the same browser, to the same URL are opened then the same session ID is used, which means the server has no way of identifying one tab from another and if a token has already been consumed by that session then all tabs could share the one token.  However if the same URL was opened in a different browser on the same client machine then yes, this would require another token because it would be using a different session ID.

PCS Frequently Asked Questions / WebEA token usage
« on: June 02, 2021, 11:01:25 am »
We've just started our WebEA journey with Pro Cloud.
As a small team we've started with tow tokens.
We are using AAD SSO.

The documentation states ONE Token can be used to enable ONE web based user (WebEA,
but it seems that each browser tab takes up a token.
Have anyone observed anything similar?

And wait, there is more.
Is it possible to view who the tokens are allocated to, or to release them?

Bugs and Issues / Archimate stereotype icons visibility
« on: December 21, 2020, 10:44:45 am »

https://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/15.2/model_domains/stereotype_visibility.html

Does anyone know how to hide/suppress the element stereotype icons in an archimate diagram?
I've de-selected Features>Show stereotypes and Elements>Use stereotype icons and Elements>Show Element Stereotypes to no effect.

Suggestions and Requests / Adjusting swimlanes
« on: November 19, 2020, 09:47:36 am »

There are a number of posts preserving the contents within a lane when using "Swimlanes and Matrix" .

This post is for a simpler feature/suggestion/request.

When adjusting (using mouse select and drag)  a diagram's swimlane width all lanes to the right of the lane boundary shift as well.
This shift is in fact a side-effect, and we know these are bad.

I propose the following enhancements:
  • mouse select and drag with the Ctrl key depressed adjusts ONLY the selected boundary
  • mouse select and drag with the Shift key depressed adjusts all columns equally, i.e. they all expand or contract by the same distance
Throughts before I submit a feature request?

Suggestions and Requests / Internal Requirements
« on: July 13, 2020, 12:15:28 pm »

A "Requirement" can have Internal "Requirements".
At first glance this is a useful idea, to break a requirement down.
But head off the the Specification Manager, and they can't be seen, or edited.
In fact they are not visible in the Browser pane either, and its hard from the Specification Manager to open the properties window to edit them.

I have requested a feature to be able to view/edit them in the Specification Manager.

Bugs and Issues / Case sensitive sorting
« on: May 26, 2020, 01:23:08 pm »

It does my head in when I use diagram layout with the Sort Name (ascending) and find the the sort is case sensitive.

This isn't the way the real (e.g. business) work works, and certainly sin't what my users expect in documentation.

Any way of changing this so sorting is case (and accent) insensitive?
(and its not related to the Database collate sequence which is set to case and diacritic insensitive)

Suggestions and Requests / Requirement priority
« on: May 05, 2020, 01:20:36 pm »
We use RFC RFC 2119 keywords to set requirement levels.
In EA the priority field has some predefined values.
I know this have been canvassed way back in the day from a search I did,
but is it possible to specify a project or model default that is different from the predefined values?

Suggestions and Requests / 15 Start page
« on: April 22, 2020, 07:46:48 am »

On the v15 start page there is a handy feature of pinned models added.

So I though excellent, I'll pin the three models I use most frequently.
SFSG.

After figuring out that the  EA the Manage Projects dialogue which opens by default has a checkbox to disable this
I discovered the the project I use most frequently is not at the top of the pinned projects list.

Is there any means of changing the order of this pinned projects list?

In EA 15.1.1526
the Tree style-vertical line style behaves differently depending on the connector type.

I am sure this was not previously like that.
In the image the connectors between the functions are not laid out correctly.

Has anyone selse seen or reported this?

Suggestions and Requests / Columns available in search
« on: April 01, 2020, 11:35:48 am »

I looked to add a new column to the search pane (no pain jokes this time sorry).

But the field chooser actually doesn't offer anything much by way of additional fields.

What I was looking for is
  • parent package
  • root
  • view
I suspect this may turn into a feature request, but looking for feedback first - and anything I have missed

Bugs and Issues / Element Files values
« on: February 25, 2020, 11:48:09 am »

In EA 15.1 in what window/pane are the files values displayed?
I seem obly to be able to access them via a separate properties window, yet in 14 they were exposed under the element window IIRC

It is convenient to access them from a docked toolbar (e.e. alongside Element and Tags)

Suggestions and Requests / Portals pain
« on: February 25, 2020, 11:37:40 am »

When you turn on the Portal pane, e.g. Start > Desktop > Design > Portal
its not immediately obvious how to make it go away again
* it doesnt toggle away
* it doesn't have the usual push pin or close (x) control
* the hamburger menu doesn't help
Turns out you have to RMB on the "Portal" title bar to find the context menu which lets you autohide it.

Suggestion: Have the Portal pane follow the UI conventions of other panes,

thus reducing the pain

(EA 15.1)
The error message "This diagram already contains an instance of the element you are trying to paste" pops up for EVERY element you may be trying to add.

It would be handy if, like other similar dialogues, there was an option to
  • OK for all
  • cancel - all further pasting

Suggestions and Requests / Allow Diagram Frames to be scaled
« on: February 20, 2020, 08:28:50 am »

It would be very convenient a diagram frame  in a diagram could be scaled, e.g. to insert a diagram frame and a "thumbnail" on another diagram at a user selectable scale, e.g. 40%

Updated to clarify it is a diagram frame in a diagram
