I'd love to know how to do this as well!

General Board / Import Java: Ambiguous Generalization Relationship
« on: November 01, 2003, 02:05:50 pm »
I'm trying to import a Java source directory tree. The import displays a number of prompts during this process titled:

Ambiguous Generalization Relationship:
Enterprise Architect cannot resolve an ambiguous relationship. Please select the appropriate element to create a generalization link to

Which is followed by a number of element choices.

The problem is that I'm importing Java, and some of the choices include table names that aren't even the same case, i.e., Product (Java) and PRODUCT (my DB table).

How do I prevent this problem from occurring?

Thanks for your help.

General Board / How to display attributes & operations with cl

I've been using EA for a few months and in the recent builds it seems that classes and tables are now represented as circles by default. This is fine in some cases, but often (usually?) I want to see the attributes and operations in the diagram itself. Is this no longer possible? If it is possible, how do I do it?

General Board / Problems with Forward Engineering Java code
« on: October 15, 2003, 02:33:32 pm »
I'm using build 3.60.647 on Windows 2000.

I'm having several issues forward engineering Java code.  In all instances I have reverse engineered the code from an existing code base.

1. How do I get EA to not update the file modified timestamp on classes I haven't actually changed within EA?  Currently, all files get updated regardless.  This makes it hard to review changes.

2. It seems that the new build makes all interfaces abstract, regardless of whether or not they started out that way.  How do I get EA to leave my interface definitions as I made them?

Any and all help would be appreciated,

Uml Process / Re: Shallow vs deep copying of sequence diagrams

I think I can answer part of your question.  To reuse objects between sequence diagrams:

1. Go to the Project View and create a new packaged called "shared"
2.  Still in the Project View, drag the objects you've created in your diagram that you want to include in other diagrams to your new "shared" folder.
3. To create a new diagram using the shared objects, just drag them to the new diagram.  This will create links back to the original object.  Changes made will be global to that object and will appear in all diagrams using it.  Objects specific to that diagram alone should be created in that diagram's package.

I would be interested to hear if anyone knows how to actually reuse sequences of messages between objects.  Recreating the same message sequences every time becomes tedious.
