Hi guys,
We're on EA 15.2, with a Postgre DB.
When trying to synchronize existing tables in the model EA crashes (windows disappear). Was thinking about a db timeout issue (crashed at about 30 seconds) but dit the same with a new model and import went through (lasted roughly 40 secs)
Did any of you already had the issue ?
Is there any crash log I can check ?

Many thanks

Since you directly ask: have a look into my scripting book. I'd guess it's an easier way to learn the API than through Sparx help pages. Decide yourself.

q.

Hi q, thanks for your reply, where can I find your scripting book ? Didn't find it in your profile.

XMI is not easy because a model is complex. You can use the API to export your model in any form you like. Probably easier than to grasp XMI.

q.

Hi q,
thanks for your reply,
could you please point to a documentation regarding API ?

Thanks

I tested an upgrade on a machine coming from 15.2

I think it will be a real pain especially if you want to install 64bits version (which I guess would be the normal choice).

None of the EA 15.2 are kept (not even the same registry paths), and the versions are installed along.

I hope it will be fixed for final release

General Board / Export Data Diagram or Class Diagram to csv or json
« on: November 04, 2021, 02:53:33 am »
Hi guys,
I'm working on a project to validate data and structures on Apache Atlas.

We currently have physical data models and class diagrams in EA

I'd like to export models to a format that would be easy to integrate in Atlas.

When I try to export a class model or data model to csv I only have choice to export tables and their columns but no information about columns (type, etc ..)

When I try to export as XMI I know that all information is in the file but I'm struggling to understand the structure so I can convert it to a json entry file for Atlas.

I don't know if my issue is clear but I'd like to have an easy export solution with all structure information from a data model.

Many thanks.

You import users but map groups . My understanding, but we are still trying this, is that as soon as user is added to a mapped AD group, the user will be able to perform all the functions the group is mapped to.

I'm gonna try but in my understanding groups are not mapped and you have to make a manual sync everytime a user is added on AD
(you click sync, new users are on the left, and you click add)
Moreover, when a user is removed from AD, his authorizations are left and you have to delete it manually.

I took a look at your script and saw it was not allowed for SQL server repositories which is my case.

That is simply a safety measure for use so we don't accidentally execute this on our production database.
You can disable that check by removing that part of the code.

Geert

Ok, but if I'm not mistaken in your script you only set iscontrolled field to 0, but version control also modifies a few other fields (XMLPath and maybe others).
If I run your script, it will set all packages to iscontrolled = 0 and may allow me to remove completely version control on project but will leave fields filled that should not be.
Am I wrong ?

Project B is copy of Project A 1 month ago
Team should have worked on project A but some team members worked on project B

Hi,
thanks for your reply.
Problem is I have a lot of package which are configured, and I have to through each of them, often not knowing where they are in the Project Browser.

I took a look at your script and saw it was not allowed for SQL server repositories which is my case.

Can I make a request on db just to check which packaged are version controlled and disable it in EA then ? I think it's the safest way to do

You can manually remove version control from each package via the menu option Configure | Version Control | Package VC

You can do the same thing using a script
https://github.com/GeertBellekens/Enterprise-Architect-VBScript-Library/blob/master/Projects/Project%20A/Model%20Management/Remove%20From%20TFS.vbs

Or use the nuclear option and update the database directly
https://github.com/GeertBellekens/Enterprise-Architect-VBScript-Library/blob/master/Projects/Project%20A/Model%20Management/Remove%20All%20From%20Version%20Control.vbs

Hi guys,
what's the best practice to copy package from a model to another ?
Copy --> Paste Full Structure for Duplication or Publish --> Export XML --> Import XML ?

PCS General Board / PCS - Modify connection string for a model
« on: June 29, 2021, 07:17:15 pm »
Hi,
we're currently migrating our Database Server.
I see no possibilities in Database Manager to simply modify the DB behind a model (can't even edit the connection string).
I have to delete entry in Database Manager and recreate it.
Is there any way to simply modify an entry, or mass modify it ?

Many thanks.

PCS General Board / PCS and Active Directory security
« on: June 29, 2021, 07:12:57 pm »
Hi,
we're currently moving from a DB based access to PCS
We have about 50 databases, one per project which are secured by an AD group each e.g for project1 EA_Project1 DB and AD group.

In my understanding, when using PCS, user which launches PCS must have full access to every db then security is set up within EA Model internal security.

We would like to keep an AD based and Managed Security. I know EA internal Security has capabilities to import AD users and groups but it's only import.
We need a live sync between our AD groups and Security.

I must admit I'm pretty confused by advertised capabilities of PCS, as I find really hard to understand what's advertised as prolaborate (seems like prolaborate has that full sync AD access) and PCS.

Is there a way we can achieve our needs ?

Many thanks

Thanks for your reply,
currently the only versioning system we use is git and it's not supported by EA.
I'll try auditing and track the size growth.

General Board / Disable version control completely
« on: June 23, 2021, 10:43:41 pm »
Hi guys,
we configured a SVN version control which is now out of date and no more supported in our company.
I'd like to delete configurations in version control settings but it states that configuration is currently used in many packages and I can't find where disable it on those packages.

Is there any way to simply disable version control ?

Many thanks.
