General Board / Re: Can the rake overlay on actions be disabled?
« on: December 22, 2016, 06:46:41 am »
I updated the original post.

From another post:
The official word (UML 2.2 Superstructure, section 12.3.14):

"The call of an activity is indicated by placing a rake-style symbol within the symbol. The rake resembles a miniature hierarchy, indicating that this invocation starts another activity that represents a further decomposition."

Can the rake overlay be disabled?
Expect this can be done per diagram.

I have activities and actions.
When I create an activity diagram, I do the following:
  • I add new actions to the diagram (no rake overlay), and/or
  • I add an action as an invocation of an existing activity.  In this case the rake overlay is added.

Visual & explanation:

I'm working on something comparable.   Still working out the details but we've determined more than 4GB of RAM is essential and our VM currently has 16GB RAM.

I knew it was somewhere.   Thank you Simon.

General Board / Re: Should our organisation migrate to EA12.1 or EA13?

I have side by side installs of 12.1 and 13.

Those considering updating can use this approach or have a set of people pilot the update.

General Board / EA13 UI & Settings Diagram Frame Options

Running into some unexpected behavior.

I am using EA13 and I want to control the diagram frame options.
I had been able to do this, but today I cannot find where to change the settings.
Below are two images;

Image from EA12.1

Right image from EA13

I do not see an expected 'Diagram' section.

How do I control the Diagram Frame Options in EA13.1?

General Board / Re: These Templates Are Driving Me Crazy

For item 2, I've had to reload the EA project to get the UI synced up with some template name and grouping changes made.

The disclaimer was more about buggy behavior I've observed.  In some cases it may not be a bug, but as a user it has been poor user experience.  But this is a EA template thing and not unique to virtual documents.

I'm with Geert.  This is a bit simplified, but unless an existing template suits your needs AND all packages are under a single parent package, use virtual documents.

It is another level of abstraction you have to manage, but you can baby step the transition.  For example, start with one master document with one model document.  Apply the current template you are using.  Then make incremental changes as needed.  Using the MVC pattern as an analogy, create more model documents, breaking apart the single package (as a model in MVC) into different packages (models in MVC) and apply different templates (views in MVC).

Disclaimer:  as you know, EA quirks come along for the ride.

General Board / Re: Model Transfer from Cloud server

@Simon In the least I would appreciate information such as a feature matrix to help me understand how the product offerings are different between Cloud and alternate approaches.

I have been using the DBMS based approach and being able to do a backup & transfer from the EA UI has been valuable along with having a local eap file for peace of mind & reference.    Right now I am deciding how to spend time to address usability issues for users across geo's and I am opting to evaluate the legacy WAN optimizer.  I suspect the Cloud based approach is the way to go, but I have yet to try it out and learn what I will have to change wrt practices before exposing it to a broad users base...this is an example of one of the things I would have to learn that is not clear from the online resources.

For example, perhaps a footnote to this cite should be added to cite how cloud based approach fits in.
In normal system maintenance, it is likely that at some point you need to relocate data between storage systems. In any edition of Enterprise Architect, you might need to transfer all records from one project file to another (recommended after serious network crash or repeated database corruption).

Thank you stevesavage, this approach makes sense and is comparable to what I was thinking of.

double confirmation complete.

Once db_ddladmin role was added I was able to transition SQL based DBMS with no errors or differences to original DBMS.

Thank you,

SQL has the following 'Fixed-Database Roles':

Any one of those ring a bell?

I have db_datareader and db_datawriter.

Bugs and Issues / DBMS based Project Transfer for 12.1
« on: September 07, 2016, 06:49:31 am »
I am using EA 12.1.1230 with SQL DBMS as repo.

I want to transfer to another SQL DBMS instance.

The Team Modeling Resources for Enterprise Architect page at only provides links for 13.0 schema:

I created database with scripts cited above.
When transferring form DBMS to DBMS, I get errors comparable to "Cannot find the object "t_category" because it does not exist or you do not have permissions."

When I run the 'Project Compare...' option, unexpected differences are cited.

Are there 12.1 EASchema scripts I should be using instead of those based on 13.0?   If so, where/how do I get them?

From my experience i was thinking of using an Element attribute or a Tagged value.   Then one would have to make an instance of said element and assign the attribute or tagged value.

Attribute seems more appropriate.

Was hoping there was or were some practices and or patterns already in use I could learn and leverage from.
