General Board / Re: Visio Add-In Import Capability
« on: August 23, 2007, 02:34:51 pm »
I have used it in version 6.5 successfully on few process diagrams that I've done in Visio 2003. However, as of version 7.0 this add-in causes EA to crash. I have already reported a bug for this to Sparx support.

General Board / Re: Screen Architect integration
« on: October 23, 2007, 09:25:07 am »
I had the same issue when I was evaluating Screen Architect and we decided not to use it. I never really investigated what was the cause of it and it would be interesting to find out.
Right now the built-in functionality around UI design that EA provides is sufficient, although I wish the screens have the ability to show web-based  screens/pages and not only windows-like screens/windows and further to that perhaps to show more "richness" so the concepts can be demonstrated to users easily.

Yes, post more and further to that I believe that after 50 posts you gain one more star, hence not being a newbie anymore.

Actually, I have started using ZF to build TOGAF-like framework. I guess it's just the way you package the structure. The ZF add-in will allow you to do that since TOGAF can be mapped to Zachman and vice-versa.

General Board / Re: Importing a Scenario from a Use Case
« on: October 20, 2007, 06:24:00 pm »
I regularly use the same functionality so I doubt there's a problem with EA since I have been using it from version 6.5.
In order to import a scenario you are required to have a test case (stereotypes use case - test case). When you select that test case you will see down on the bottom (providing that you have the default layout of course) the Testing window that basically shows tabs Unit, Integration, System, Acceptance and Scenario. You will see this window if you go through View menu and click on Testing. Rest is explained in the guide that you have referred to.
I hope this helps!

General Board / Re: Storing files in sql repository
« on: October 18, 2007, 12:13:50 pm »
Well, there is a trick to it. The way i did that is I've created a package called "External Project Documents" (very intuitive I know) and within that package I had a package diagram on which I dragged few elements with "artifact" stereotype. Then I opened a blank document by double-clicking on the document object on the diagram and basically copy-pasted my document contents. This allowed me to preserve any formatting I had in the original document and to store it on the repository server itself. From there I can then link this object to other artifacts within the project models and voila - I have my traceability!
I know there should be an easier method to add files (like drag/drop kind) to our project folders but for now I am using this way.
I hope this helps. Regards,

General Board / Re: Copy Image to Clipboard - Diagram Name
« on: October 17, 2007, 04:29:38 am »
Follow the above instruction given by Midnight and under Diagram dialog window clear the check mark "On Clipboard Images" under the "Diagram Frames" group. Additionally, you can clear other check marks here if you are printing or saving images as files. That would do it.

General Board / Re: Lost the Project View
« on: October 17, 2007, 04:33:24 am »
That would depend on the version of EA you have and perhaps some funky settings (everyone's computer is setup differently of course). I have the current version 7.0 build 817 and View-Project Browser or Alt-0 works fine for me.

I agree with Midnight. The shape scripts are the way to go, although it would be nice if we can manipulate shapes directly w/o resorting to so much scripting.

General Board / Re: Adding Models to an existing project
« on: October 12, 2007, 07:19:53 pm »

Right click on your root model (usually the project root node that you have previously created) and choose "Add Model using Wizard" from the context menu. This will bring the same dialog window as the one you used when you created the project and allow you to add Use Case Model and Class Model. They will in fact appear as "Views" in your project but that shouldn't be a problem.
I hope this answers your question. Regards,

General Board / Re: EA earns its name with the Zachman MDG Technol
« on: October 12, 2007, 05:13:33 am »
Well said indeed!
I was using EA to demonstrate to my architecture group some of the capabilities of EA at the enterprise architecture level and I started developing Zachman-like project template for that purpose. Sparx sure had my work cut out for me and thank them for that.
Great product becomes even greater.

General Board / Re: Anti-aliasing for text in diagrams

It is actually Windows Clear Type that is making this happen. I would assume that changing the font from default Arial to something else would do the trick (somehwat).

Now you should use that "sql" and actually build your database. You can certainly copy/paste it into other (MSSQL, DB2, etc...) DBMS providing you have created an empty database before. Although, I wouldn't count so much on accuracy of the generated script.

General Board / Re: MDG Technology for Zachman Framework
« on: October 01, 2007, 09:00:49 am »
Thanks Roy,
I have been using swimlane matrix in my presentation of Zachman Framework within EA to colleagues. However, having seen this new MDG I'm kind of thinking that I shouldn't invest too much time and just use it when it gets released. Since I have some other things to do in the meantime, I guess I can wait for the release.
Once again, thanks for the info.
