Except for parameters ("?") to be substituted which is neat to have in handling blobs (e.g. embedded pictures). And you don't get support for it since it's not an official interface. However, it's nice and works for most sql strings.

I once had a discussion with Sparx support why it's not possible to import a MDG so you have the profile for further editing. They didn't know that time since it seemed simple from EA's point of view. I think the answer is: this way they loose the copyright on their MDG files.

Of course you can extend the profile also by manually editing the xml file using a text or xml editor. This work only for very minor changes...

No. Except you can get the base model from Sparx or you write your own profile (which is what I did).

RTFM: Models

Read only. Models are of type package and belong to a collection of packages. This is the top level entry point to an Enterprise Architect project file. Each model is a root node in the Project Browser and can contain items such as Views and packages.

I wonder wether your former colleagues have read RFC 1925 thoroughly. Funny it fits not only for networking...

Isn't there any escalation procedure? For a standard product service there should be one! A supporter (New Zealand isn't too far from Australia) should come and fix it at the customer site. And if it's too far they need to send someone from an affiliate company. Well....

I guess the problem is the price here. Above is valid for licenses where a single one is above $10.000. Maybe it's an idea for Sparx to offer payed premier support?

IIRC V9 has to offer something in that direction.

Good idea, but I guess Sparxian don't like that kind of food very much. Just out of a long years experience  :(

Search the help for PutDiagramImageToFile

Haha. As if that would ease access to the database from within EA.

Btw.: The "real" data is the XMI. The database is just a means of getting fast access. RR in ancient days worked only on its XMI predecessor (the mdl files).

I got feedback from Sparx: Execute is not officially supported.

Does anybody know a way to pass parameters? I tried
Code: [Select]
Repositotry.Execeute ("INSERT INTO table ('col1', 'col2') VALUES (?, ?)", val1, val2)but that did not work. Especially I want to insert a BLOB (image) which is probably not so nice using quoted values.

q.

[edit:] I found a way to insert a BLOB by using 0x notation for the binary data (which is a workaround as this differs between databases).

[argh!] Now I get DAO.Database errors when trying to insert the BLOB. Jet 3 and 4 messages are different but none of them works. Bah! Mikeysoft!

[edit:] It now seems to be obvious that there is a 64k limit to the SQL string length. Who can be blamed for that? (I guess you need to tell Mikeysoft that BLOBs and the according SQLs are large - I have a faint remembering...) However, I'll report this as a bug to Sparx.

Maybe it's connected  to this bug report.

You want to set the block programmatically to "Show Composite"?

In that case you have to tweak t_diagramobjects. Append the string SCD=1; to ObjectStyle of the according diagram object.

Geert,
there is a "rather" easy way to move ops and attrs: Drag from the browser onto the target element in a diagram. This makes identical copies. Then just delete the source.

I once tried that, but long ago. AFAIR it worked once upon a time. Now I tested once again. The window is created, but the return value is nil. Probably you should report that as a bug to Sparx.

N.B. Somehow it must work as (at least one) add-in provider is using it.
