Errors after migrating to EA11
« on: May 13, 2014, 10:32:06 pm »
Hi,

I have a number of shared projects in SQL Server + SVN where BPMN diagrams + linked documents have been defined.
I just upgraded to EA11 which lead to major issues on the existing project:
- I have a BPMN diagram which is located in a controlled package that's different from the package where nodes like activities are stored. If I select with a simple click an activity from the diagram, I get about 10 popup error messages "Cannot perform nesting operation. The parent item "" is locked" --> this makes the model unusable.
- We've documented many activities using EA Linked Documents; where existing linked documents can be accessed, it is no longer possible to create new ones on other activities. Have linked docs been replaced with something else in EA? How can we migrate? Why has it been disabled?

As it currently stands, I have to go back to EA10 as EA11 isn't compatible with the projects. This is the first time I'm getting major issues in migrating versions.

Thanks
Guillaume

I think that for such issues you better log a support request with Sparx. Last days I logged two issues with them that maybe are related. One had to do with the impossibility to draw BPMN message flows between pools that are placed wihtin a certain node in the Project Browser. The other was about the impossibility to add documents to the model. (I use an eap file.)

The issue has been confirmed as a bug by Sparx. Hopefully it will be fixed in  a future build.

Hi,

Thanks for your research!

Is there a bug #, or link that shows EA has recognized this as a bug?  We want to track it to see which release its fixed in. z

It looks like this issue might be addressed in v11 r 1107:

Can anyone confirm?

On May 14th I wrote: "The other [support issue] was about the impossibility to add documents to the model. (I use an eap file.) "

I now got feedback from Sparx on this issue. It turned out that adding documents inside your model is NOT meant to be in the Desktop nor in the Professional edition. The functionality that looks like you can do this in those versions, will be removed from those versions.

So for having documents inside your model you need version Corporate or higher.

I don't think he is.

I can see an argument for not supporting it in the Desktop version,  but doesn't make sense to me for the Professional version.

The primary distinguishing feature between professional and corporate editions is a shared model for a team. If you don't have a shared model then there's not much point including documents directly within your model.

Hhhmm.  Well it would be good to be able to store all related information in one place whether it's a shared model or not.

I disagree, the benefit of storing documents in the model are, if anything, more valuable for a sole practitioner.
