Code reverse engineering
« on: August 09, 2007, 09:56:15 pm »
Hello,

Are there any plans to open up the code reverse engineering process?
In other words, allow some form of user-creatable definitions (along the lines of the Code Templates) which specify what UML artefacts to produce from a set of directories and files in some arbitrary, user-specified language?
I'm thinking that you guys must already have some tool to do this since you can reverse engineer so many languages, so is a release of this tool to the general (paying) public within the realm of possibility?

Cheers,

My theories are always correct, just apply them to the right reality.

Nice idea.

What say, Sparxians?
No, you can't have it!

Certainly got my vote ... especially for applying to non-covered languages.

Of course some of this may well be covered in the upcoming SDK. AIUI, and not to steal Sparx' thunder, this tool is currently in beta. At this point it seems to be essentially a collation of the information previously available, but in one place. There are a few new things relating to features extended in EA 7.0.

I expect, entirely on my own supposition - that the SDK will be expanded and extended by Sparx over time.

I gather it will become more accessible when it goes to production.

[Spotters hint: Search the forum for a link to the beta. Roy, among other Sparxians, is looking for feedback.]
