Performance of Sparx EA under Linux Wine
« on: September 12, 2016, 06:29:20 pm »
I am considering running Sparx EA under Wine in Ubuntu Linux. What experience do you have with this? Does this perform adequately? Are there any other issues with this?

I'm running it on Parallels with no issues. I had wine for testing it some time ago. The UI looks a bit disturbing, but besides that it ran with no issues. It's not a game, so graphics is not critical ;-)

Follow the instructions on http://www.sparxsystems.com/support/faq/enterprise-architect-WINE.html and use a recent version of EA and you'll barely notice it's not a native application.

(No middle click paste is my greatest irritation when running in this way, which says how good it is)

Used Sparx on Mac OS (BSD Linux) on WINE and seems to work fine. Only things I found that didn't quite work
Colour picker couldn't pick colours. This has been reported to sparx
When using a secondary monitor it wouldn't show. Think this is a problem with WINE.
Other than that all good.
Happy to help

I have downloaded the Trial version to test in Wine/Ubuntu. This does indeed seem to work well, with no performance issues.

@Sunshine:
I have no problem using an extended screen configuration; Sparx EA behaves just like any other application. I can drag its window to any of the two monitor screens without a problem.
