V16 I am not able to connect to an MSSQL Repository
« on: October 14, 2021, 01:57:23 am »
Today I tried to connect with V16 to an MSSQL repository.
Native connection seems not to work because it seem to me that it is not possible to connect to the DB with my Windows Account and I do not have an MSSQL native account.
Cloud Connection as well as ODBC connection gives me back:

"An error has occurred loading the requested project.
Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server [Ox80040e14]
Argument data type ntext is invalid for argument 1 of left function."

At least for the ODBC connection the “Test Connection” returns success by I can not open the repository.
Any ideas?
Best regards,

Peter Heintz

I didn't have any issues at all connecting to my SQL Server repo (using windows authentication)

Hi Geert

Are you connecting via ODBC or the new native connection? If using native, how did you get it to accept windows authentication?

I used the existing .eap shortcut I had, that was working with v15.2

I just tried setting up a new server connection, but that doesn't seem to work without specifying a username and password.

Using "Custom Data Source" you get the "old" way of connecting. So you can use that to connect using window authentication.

I asked Mr. Google and came to the conclusion, that this problem is not related to any way of accessing the DB.
It seems to be a problem of the select statements carried out once the connection is established. Somehow a Cast operation is missed at least for my MSSQL V13 version.

Geert what MSSQL version are you using?

And to Sparx: It would be good if native connections would forward the ADS account to MSSQL as well.

Yes, of cause, V15 works.
But we are still on V14 because of some IBD issues, and I want to find out if V16 is a future option. But currently it is not.
I remember I had this issue in one earlier beta but this was fixed, but here is it again!

I've just tried to set up a custom data source to the MS SQL Server based repository.
When I try to open it the next error is displayed:
"An error has occured loading the requested project.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server [0x80040e14]
Argument data type ntext is invalid for argument 1 of the left function."
The same error is displayed when I try to open connection copied from EA 15.0.1513.

I think you are still using an old version of the database schema. The newer versions don't use any ntext columns anymore.
You can update your schema using one of the update SQL scripts you can download from the Sparx website.
